zori
Zori are Japanese sandals. They are consist of a flat sole (with the top layer of the sole being made of rice straw) and of two round velvet thin straps passing between the big toe and the second toe, then separating to fasten on the side of the sole. The zori are often worn with socks separating the big toe from the other toes, (there are zoris which have an X forms). Wearing them makes it possible to remove them quickly if needed to enter traditional buildings, homes or the case of martial arts, to avoid dirtying the tatami mat.
